How to Set Up a Facebook Fundraiser

We run almost exclusively on support from community members and organizations, so your support is key in order to continue this important work in Tampa Bay! See below for other ways to support:

Here Are The Steps To Take

Step 0. You must have your birthday (not year) listed in your Facebook profile to be prompted to set up a fundraiser. If your birthday is not listed, follow the steps in the box below to get started.

Step 1. About 10 days before your birthday, Facebook will prompt you to set up a birthday fundraiser. Don’t do it yet. It’s too early.

Step 2. Facebook will prompt you again on the day before your birthday to set up a fundraiser campaign OR if they miss you, follow the steps in the box below. If you are NOT prompted by Facebook to set your fundraiser, do the following:

  • Click Fundraisers in the left menu of your News Feed or CLICK HERE.

  • Click Raise Money.

  • Select Nonprofit/Charity. – Scroll through until you find ‘Sew Powerful’

  • Select Green Book of Tampa Bay choose a cover photo and fill in the fundraiser details.

  • Click Create.

Step 3. You will be prompted to setup your fundraiser.

  • From the dropdown list of Nonprofits/Charities choose ‘Sew Powerful’ as your chosen charity

  • Include a financial goal of at least $100

  • Choose a campaign duration of 4-7 days

  • Choose a cover photo for the campaign. The MOST successful

  • Next you will need a ‘story’. FaceBook gives you something but it is so generic that it won’t really move anyone to open their wallet. Here is a sample you can use: For my birthday this year, I’m asking for donations to Green Book of Tampa Bay, a nonprofit organization dedicated to spotlighting Black artists, storytellers, and visionaries throughout the Tampa Bay region. Your donation helps them provide resources for local artists, produce accessible arts programming, offer an artist residency program, support exhibition opportunities, and create experiences that celebrate Black creativity and culture. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps ensure that artists have the platform and support they need to thrive. Please consider donating even $5 to my Facebook fundraiser in support of this work I believe in and for supporting the artists who make our community more vibrant, connected, and inspired.

  • Finally, you will be asked to invite people. Invite everyone it lets you send the invite to.
